People always ask me, “Who is Oma?” It’s actually the Dutch word for “grandmother,” and Oma’s Puffers is a tribute to my husband’s Dutch Oma, the inspiration behind every puffer we proudly serve.you.

The first time I met Oma was in Holland. She was an amazing cook, and on special occasions, she made poffertjes--a homemade Dutch treat, something like a pancake--for her grandchildren. After Oma passed away, her poffertjes pan was passed down to us, along with a handwritten recipe. It was a lovely keepsake that I put away.

Fast-forward several more years: After 25 years in the entertainment industry, I was looking for inspiration for my next professional adventure. Both as a professional and as mom of three kids, I’d attended a wide variety of events of events over the years--birthday parties, business functions, festivals, holidays, weddings--and after a while, it seemed like they all served variations of the same food. I wanted to create a business that offered a wholesome and delicious alternative to the same old, same old fare--a delectable surprise that everyone would love. That’s when I remembered Oma’s pan.

I practiced Oma’s poffertjes recipe in my own kitchen, trying my Dutch pancakes out on some tough critics--my Dutch husband, and our three kids. Over time I tweaked the recipe, modifying it for the American palate by adding a wide variety of toppings, and renamed them “puffers.” And then it was time for the biggest test of all: I served them to my best friend’s son, the pickiest eater I’d ever known! That little boy had never eaten anything I’d put in front of him, but when it came to my puffers, he couldn’t get enough! That’s when I knew I’d found something special to share with the world.

Puffers are made with wholesome, natural ingredients, just as Oma crafted them in her own kitchen, and they come with a wide array of toppings, including fresh fruit and cream and hazelnut spread. We strive to eliminate one-time-use products, in an effort to move toward being a zero-waste business. We also serve gluten-free and vegan varieties.

People tell me they love to watch them being made, fresh before their eyes, and they love the taste even more. On Yelp, we are so pleased to see the rave reviews:

What a treat! These are the true original Dutch mini pancakes, absolutely delicious. These little treats are a great addition for any party. We had about 340 people attend our party and each and everyone was raving about these wonderful snacks! - Megan R.

Go visit Oma's Puffers at a local Farmers market or call them to have a great treat for your party! Absolutely Delicious!! - Jacco B.

Vivian has made my dreams come true with VEGAN POFFERTJES. In the merry days of my youth I would devour these with abandon whenever I got the chance. It's such a treat to have them made fresh outside of the Netherlands! If you've never had poffertjes before prepare to be obsessed, because the Dutch do sweets like nobody's business. Vegan batter is available upon advance request. --Michelle B.

If Oma were here today, we know she’d be surprised and delighted to learn that so many people enjoy the delicious Dutch-American treat that carries her name.

At Oma’s Puffers, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, wholesome ingredients and great taste that satisfies adults and kids alike! Each serving is freshly made before your eyes. We now offer vegan and gluten free (poffertjes).
